Voting in North Carolina

Getting Registered:

The voter registration deadline is  Friday, October 12. If you miss the deadline, you can use Same Day Registration during Early Voting. (It is not an option on Election Day.)

Absentee Vote by Mail:

If you would like to request an absentee ballot for the general election, fill out this form and return it to your county board of elections (find their address here) by October 30.

Early Voting:

Early Voting begins on Wednesday, October 17, and ends at 1 PM on Saturday, November 3.

Early vote locations and hours of operation vary by county. You can vote at an early voting location in your county. Look here to find the most convenient early vote location for you.   

During early voting, people can register to vote and vote on the same day. Bring some proof of residence like an up-to-date driver’s license, utility bill, student photo id with address, or government photo ID. Check your voter registration today by going to:

Election Day:

Election Day is Tuesday, November 6, 2018. All polling places are open from 6:30 AM to 7:30 PM. If you are in line at 7:30 PM, you will be allowed to vote. Polling Place lookup:
